AfricArena – Dakar pitch event

On Wednesday, September 19, 2018, CTIC hosted the Dakar stage of the AfricArena tour as part of its ninth edition. As Dakar is a high-potential technology hub and CTIC, a jewel in the crown of the entrepreneurial community in French-speaking Africa, this event highlighted the passion and talent of local start-ups through the various challenges sponsored by the multinationals Vinci Energies, Air France and Saint-Gobain.

The French ambassador, Christophe Bigot, launched the event with an opening address and the large audience was treated to a panel discussion on the theme “Senegal’s role in the African entrepreneurial ecosystem”.

Rich discussions moderated by Morgane Vannier from Sékou, took place with the following participating experts : Tidjane Deme from Partech Ventures, Lydia Babaci-Victor, R&D Director of Vinci Energies, Youma Fall from Paydunya and Aziz Sy from Impact Hub.

Of the twelve startups that pitched, three had the good fortune to be selected to participate in the AfricArena Grand Final, to be held in Cape Town next November. PayDunya won the first prize, followed by Bayseddo, a startup which is incubated at CTIC and Wizall came in third place.
